There will be no Battle of Hastings re-enactment at Battle Abbey this year (2013). The extreme wet weather last year has damaged the grass site to the extent that it needs re-seeding. There will however be other events taking place and the Companions will be laying a wreathe on the Haroldstone on the 12th or 13th October. Exact details to be announced later.

News & Events / King Offa and Bedford
« on: February 19, 2013, 03:08:06 PM »
It is very probable that King Offa fortified the original town of Bedford and his wife had connections with Bedford following Offa's death and burial at Bedford.
But Bedford authorities have never promoted or acknowledged his associations with the town.
The new riverside development, immediatly north of the River Ouse, which now seems likely to go ahead, imcorporates a new Square.   To name it "King Offa's Square" woiuld be a very suitable way of commemorating that major figure of early history.
