This month we have made our 2024 calendar available to download as a PDF file. You can also download previous calendars from the same page. Look out for news in a few weeks about ordering the calendar for 2025!
We also have a new article in our series on Wildlife and Countryside in Anglo-Saxon times, entitled “Ghosts of woodland in our countryside”.
Companions’ Events in 2024
Our stall at Dalbyology on July saw many visitors interested in Old English words we use today, place name evidence for Anglo-Saxon settlement, and learning to write in the Anglo-Saxon fuþorc (runic alphabet).
We will be attending events over the coming months where we hope to meet as many visitors as possible to chat about Anglo-Saxon history, language and culture:
- Back to our Medieval Roots, Sutton Bank Visitor Centre, North York Moors, 4 August
- Battle of Stamford Bridge Commemoration Event, Stamford Bridge, East Yorkshire, 28 September
- Battle of Old Byland Event, Sutton Bank Visitor Centre, North York Moors, 13 October
- Battle of Hastings Wreath Laying, Hastings, October, details TBC
- Harold Festival, Waltham Abbey, October, details TBC
Members will also have the chance to join in Zoom socials or visits arranged by their local groups, as well as attend our annual Feast on 14 September. More details of all such events can be found in Wiðowinde or via the Zoom group mailing list.
